12 June 2004 13:52 Russian MP holds up Kazakhstan as example for CIS cooperation Almaty, 12 June: A group of State Duma deputies of the One Russia [major pro-presidential party] parliamentary
faction headed by First Deputy Speaker of the State Duma Lyubov Sliska met Almaty Mayor Viktor Khrapunov in Almaty
today, a Kazakhstan Today correspondent has reported.
In the course of the meeting, which took place within the framework of the Year of Russia in Kazakhstan, they
discussed bilateral, parliamentary, cultural and sport cooperation.
"It is always simpler and surer to agree with our neighbour Kazakhstan as this avoids the kind of doubts that
exist with Ukraine and Belarus. I very much want these two countries to follow the example of the Kazakh president
[Nursultan Nazarbayev], who always proposes very serious and new solutions for economic reforms," Sliska said.
In her view, "the examples shown by Russia and Kazakhstan, and Presidents Vladimir Putin and Nursultan
Nazarbayev, are worthy of imitation for the development of the CIS in terms of politics, the economy and
good-neighbourliness".
"A good neighbour is always better than a good sponsor," the first deputy speaker of the Russian State Duma
added.
