Moscow court rejects libel case against lawyer
MOSCOW. June 10 (Interfax) - Moscow's Cheryomushkinsky court rejected on Thursday a libel case filed against Moscow Bar Association President Genri Reznik by the Matrosskaya Tishina remand center and two of its employees. In doing so the court has shown that it does not consider as libel Reznik's television statement regarding the seizure of written documents from Olga Artyukhova, one of the attorneys defending former Yukos CEO Mikhail Khodorkovsky. The case was filed after an incident on November 11, 2003, when, following a meeting with her client, Artyukhova's notes were seized. Reznik went on television later to say that the search was done by men and that they were touching the body of a female lawyer. Alexander Fukalov and V. Bazanov, the inspectors involved in the seizure of Artyukhova's notes, wanted the court to refute Reznik's remarks about them. They denied having searched Artyukhova or having examined her folder.
