10 June 2004 05:23 Russia`s UES suggests forming common CIS electricity market DUSHANBE. June 10 (Interfax) - Russia's Unified Energy System (UES) has suggested forming a common electricity
market in the CIS. The proposal is contained in documents released at a Thursday meeting of the CIS Electricity Council
in Dushanbe.
This market would increase the reliability and quality of electricity supplies, optimize the use of energy resources
and lay legal and economic groundwork for further integration of the energy markets of CIS member countries and other
states, the documents say.
Common technical and organizational norms in the CIS energy systems are necessary for the common electricity market
to function successfully. Each country needs to provide balance on the market and cooperate on electricity reserves, UES
said. [TJ ASIA EEU EMRG RU ELG] te aw
