Russian official says G8 decision not applicable to Iran nuclear reactor
A Russian Atomic Energy Agency [Ministry] official has said: Russia and Iran will continue their nuclear cooperation in order to complete the Bushehr nuclear reactor. [correspondent] The decision made by the leaders of the eight industrialized countries will not at all affect Russian-Iranian cooperation to complete the Bushehr reactor. In an exclusive interview with the correspondent of the Central News Unit in Moscow, Nikolay Shingarov, who is the head of the press office of the Atomic Energy Agency [Ministry] of the Russian Federation, added: The construction of the Bushehr reactor has nothing to do with uranium enrichment technology or equipment. Therefore, the decision made by the leaders of the eight industrial states does not apply to it. Shingarov added: The Bushehr reactor is being set up on the basis of an agreement between the Russian government and Iran. Russia must implement the agreement. Shingarov stressed: The construction of the Bushehr reactor is taking place under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency and, so far, the agency has not protested about Iranian-Russian cooperation in this field.
