11 June 2004 12:25 Turkmen president, Russian envoy exchange views on economic issues [Presenter] Today, President of Turkmenistan Saparmyrat Turkmenbasy [Nyyazow] the Great received the ambassador
extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Turkmenistan, [Andrey] Molochkov. Fundamental exchange of
views took place on the current state of and prospects for Turkmen-Russian cooperation, level of implementing economic
agreements and the development of comprehensive relations in the humanitarian field.
President of Turkmenistan Saparmyrat Turkmenbasy the Great noted the high level of economic cooperation between the
two states and said that successful implementation of long-term agreement on the Turkmen natural gas supplies to Russia
stared this year. As is known, within the framework of 25-year bilateral agreement, the largest Russian open joint stock
company Gazprom started importing Turkmen gas beginning from 2004. In 2004, 5bn cu. m. of gas will be purchased [by
Gazprom] and starting from 2007, this figure will reach 60-70bn cu. m. annually. Saparmyrat Turkmenbasy the Great said
that the implementation of this important document would facilitate the strengthening of Turkmen-Russian
cooperation.
