09 June 2004 09:30 Legislative base of Russia`s WTO accession almost ready MOSCOW. June 9 (Interfax) - Maksim Medvedkov, director of the Russian Economic Development and Trade Ministry's
trade negotiations department, said the legislative base for Russia's accession to the World Trade Organization is
practically ready.
At a joint session of the State Duma committees for international affairs and economic policy, Medvedkov said that
Russia "is already in the WTO's legislative space, and only 3 to 4 amendments to existing laws are required to
completely prepare Russia's laws for WTO accession."
He said that most of the work to prepare Russia's laws for
accession has been done. At the same time, there is "a not so perfect

Medvedkov said that recent agreements with the European Union will allow Russia to accelerate and conclude
negotiations with other countries, including the U.S., Japan and China.
