Late Chechen leader`s supporters select candidate for presidential election
Groznyy, 10 June: The team of the late Chechen President Akhmat Kadyrov today put forward its only candidate for the
highest post in the republic at the forthcoming early Chechen presidential election in August.
He is 47-year-old Militia Maj-Gen Alu Alkhanov, who occupies the post of Chechen interior minister.
"Alu Alkhanov is a worthy comrade-in-arms of Akhmat Kadyrov [late president] and his candidature was unanimously
endorsed by the team of the late Chechen president and backed by numerous supporters," Ramzan Kadyrov [son of
Akhmat] told ITAR-TASS.
A many-thousand-strong meeting in support of Alkhanov's candidature is currently taking place in Kadyrov's
home village, Tsentoroy.
