10 June 2004 09:38 Housing prices to be cut, more offers to be made, says Russian Duma Speaker [Presenter] When will Russians receive a real opportunity to buy flats? When will the eternal housing problem be
resolved? These are the items on today's State Duma agenda. A package of draft laws consisting of 27 documents has
been submitted to the Duma.
The documents should help Russians to get easier access to the housing market. Creating conditions aimed at
increasing the volume of construction, decreasing housing prices and developing the mortgage system are the main
directions of state policy for the near future.
[Boris Gryzlov, State Duma Chairman] Reducing prices for buyers and increasing the number of offers on the part of
sellers - these are the two priorities. First, this will motivate construction. Second, this will motivate demand, as
the prices are lower. This is the essence of the package of draft laws.
