08 June 2004 04:00 Russia ups foreign trade surplus in Jan-April (Part 2) MOSCOW. June 8 (Interfax) - Russia's foreign trade surplus climbed to $29.1 billion in January-April 2004, from
$24.5 billion in the same period of 2003, the State Customs Committee reported.
The committee said that foreign trade climbed 24.5% to $70.9 billion in January-April 2004, including $58 billion in
trade with non- CIS countries, up 22.8%, and $12.9 billion in trade with CIS countries, up 32.6%.
In export to countries outside the CIS, fuel and energy made 57.5%
of the entire volume of export to these countries (62.4% in

Trade with the European Union accounted for 36.4% of total trade turnover (37.2% in January-April 2003), the CIS
accounted for 18.2% (17.1%), Eurasian Economic Community countries for 10.2% (9.6%), Asia Pacific region countries for
16.7% (15.5%), and Central And Eastern European countries for 12.1% (13.6%).
Russia's main trade partners were Germany with turnover totaling $6.7 billion, up 18.5%; the Netherlands - $4.7
billion, up 61.6%; China -$4.5 billion, up 37.5%; Italy - $3.6 billion, up 1.4%; Finland - $2.6 billion, up 22.6%;
Poland - $2.4 billion, up 15.2%; Turkey - $2.4 billion, up 38.1%; the United States - $2.3 billion, up 9%; Switzerland
