Court resumes hearings on Khodorkovsky case (part 2)
MOSCOW. June 8 (Interfax) - Moscow's Meshchansky Court resumed preliminary hearings on the criminal case against former Yukos CEO Mikhail Khodorkovsky at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday. The hearings are being held behind closed doors, an Interfax correspondent reported from the scene. The Prosecutor General's Office is accusing Khodorkovsky and Lebedev of crimes under seven articles of the Criminal Code, Khodorkovsky's parents and teachers from his school are waiting outside the court building, in addition to students from the Yabloko youth movement and other supporters - a total of about 15 people - holding his portrait and posters with messages of support. Andrei Krainov is being tried at the same time as Khodorkovsky. Krainov is the former general director of AOZT Volna, a company Khodorkovsky's mother Marina told journalists on Tuesday that relatives still see Khodorkovsky twice a month. She said that he is upbeat and is not complaining about the conditions of his detention. The court is expected on Tuesday to decide whether the criminal cases of Khodorkovsky and MFO Menatep head Platon Lebedev can be combined. including large-scale fraud, non-implementation of a court ruling, misappropriation of property, corporate and personal tax evasion and forgery of documents. through which shares in OAO Apatit were misappropriated, according to the Prosecutor General's Office. In addition to the Meshchansky Court, hearings connected with Yukos will take place in two other courts in Moscow on Tuesday. The Basmanny Court will hear a complaint from lawyers for Yukos security officer Alexei Pichugin, who is accused of murder, against inaction by the Prosecutor General's Office which, according to the defense, did not investigate the use of psychotropic substances against their client. In addition, the Cheremushkinsky Court is continuing to hear a suit filed by the Matrosskaya Tishina Detention Center and two of its employees against Genri Reznik, president of the Moscow Bar. This case was opened after Reznik made an announcement on television that the dentition center's employees illegally searched Khodorkovsky's lawyer Olga Artyukhova.
