Future of second TV programme produced by sacked Russian journalist up in air
[No dateline, as received] Anton Khrekov, a presenter of the "Strana i Mir" news programme, is not very optimistic about the programme's future. "I cannot say that I am very optimistic about the programme's future," he told Ekho Moskvy radio. "I have a feeling that throughout the 18 months of its existence the programme have been going on air against all odds. That is why I do not feel much optimism," Khrekov said. He said that before drawing any conclusions, it was necessary to listen to the management's proposals and suggestions, to see how the task is formulated. This week a meeting where the programme's fate will be decided is expected to take place. Aleksey Pivovarov, another presenter of "Strana i Mir", has confirmed this. He said that at the meeting "the management's possible claims to us will be voiced and, accordingly, we shall listen to the management's vision of our programme's future". Pivovarov explained that originally the meeting was scheduled to take place last week with [recently sacked "Namedni" presenter] Leonid Parfenov taking part, but it was rescheduled due to Parfenov's sacking. Speaking earlier live on Ekho Moskvy, NTV general director Nikolay Senkevich said that "Strana i Mir" was going to remain part of the channel's output. "There are questions as to the programme's format, market research related to the programme's development is about to be completed. The programme is sure to have a future," he said.
