08 June 2004 10:07 Russia to help Mexico create its own gas industry - Putin Mexico, 8 June: Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that cooperation between Russia and Mexico in the energy
field "will create stability on world markets". "I have no doubt whatsoever that our plans for
cooperation ought to be assessed positively by the international markets," Putin said at the news conference.
According to Putin, "cooperation with Mexico in the energy field is extremely important not only for the two
countries but also for the whole of the world market". "We do not conclude any cartel agreements and are not
members of OPEC but we constantly exchange opinions and are on the phone to the Mexican president," Putin said. In
his opinion, "the more closely our companies work, the more stable the situation will be on the world
markets".
Putin said that Russia intends to help Mexico create its own gas sector. "Joint work on the whole cycle -
geological prospecting, extraction and supply - could be even more interesting. Nobody is going to dispute that Russia
is a leader in this field or that we can provide assistance to Mexico in all these areas," Putin said. He stressed
that "the final aim is to create a gas sector of its own for Mexico".
