07 June 2004 13:20 Senior Russian official promises action on Rostov miners` wage arrears [Presenter] And back to the miners who are on strike in Rostov Region. We have just received a statement by the
president's plenipotentiary representative in the south, Vladimir Yakovlev:
[Yakovlev] A working group has been set up, which will have R500,000 at its disposal. As we've already said
R500,000 has been placed in a number of accounts that will form the basis for payments to cover all the debts that
exist. Of course, this is very little and will cover only those who are actually on strike at the moment, who are going
hungry, and then not completely. And so, I've given instructions to speed things up.
