04 June 2004 23:46 Russia only CIS country to post mutual trade surplus MOSCOW. June 4 (Interfax) - Russia was the only country in the CIS to post a trade surplus in trade with the CIS in
the first quarter of 2004, the CIS Interstate Statistics Committee reported.
The surplus totaled $2.35 billion, with Russia's exports to the CIS totaling $5.77 billion and imports $3.41
billion.
The mutual trade deficit was greatest in Ukraine at $1.85 billion with exports to fellow CIS countries totaling $1.66
billion and imports -$3.48 billion. The deficit was $686.2 million in Belarus (exports - $1.49 billion, imports - $2.18
billion); $313 million in Kazakhstan ($891.5 million and $1.2 billion); $172.6 million in Azerbaijan ($87.7 million and
$260.3 million); $152.8 million in Tajikistan ($35.9 million and $188.7 million); $85.4 million in Georgia ($37.9
million and $123.3 million); $65.1 million in Kyrgyzstan ($54.6 million, $119.7 million); $35.7 million in Moldova
($117.4 million, $153.1 million), and $25.8 million in Armenia ($27.4 million, $53.2 million).
The CIS Interstate Statistics Committee does not collate foreign trade statistics for Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.
