04 June 2004 19:49 Ruble grew more than 5% against major currencies in Q1 - Zhukov MOSCOW. June 4 (Interfax) - The ruble strengthened more than 5% against the basket of currencies in the first quarter
of 2004, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Zhukov said at the Corporate Governance and Economic Growth Conference.
"The most recent analysis of the situation on the currency market indicates that the Central Bank and government
will be able this year to meet the monetary policy targets," Zhukov said.
In other words the ruble will not strengthen by more than 7% and inflation will be brought down to 10% in 2004. [RU
