Man gets one year for placing Soviet flag on Duma (Part 2)
MOSCOW. June 3 (Interfax) - The Moscow Tverskoi Court on Thursday gave Communist Party activist Armen Beniaminov a one-year suspended prison sentence with a two-year probation period for desecrating the Russian Federation's state flag. Beniaminov placed a Soviet flag on the State Duma building on November 7, 2003. "Following initial preparations, Beniaminov, on November 6, 2003 went up to the attic of the State Duma building and stayed there for the night. On November 7, Beniaminov started to raise the Soviet red flag during a demonstration [dedicated to the public holiday marked on that day]. He knew that his actions would cause the Russian state flag secured to the same flag-staff to go down," the judge said. [RU EEU EUROPE ASIA EMRG] av tl <>
