Rebel suspects rounded up in Chechnya
Moscow, 4 June: Federal servicemen and members of republican law-enforcement bodies in Chechnya have detained nine rebels and eliminated three. As ITAR-TASS was informed today by the regional operational HQ for directing the counterterrorist operation in the North Caucasus, residents of Vedenskiy District Aslanbek Ginayev, Mayrbek Misirov and Sharpudi Geriyev were detained in Groznyy on suspicion of carrying out terrorist acts in Chechnya and Dagestan. Their involvement in blowing up a vehicle in Groznyy's Oktyabrskiy District in May 2004, as a result of which two servicemen were killed and two were injured, has been proved. Aside from that, it has been established that the detained men were also involved in blowing up a UAZ vehicle and an armoured personnel carrier opposite the Agroprom building in Groznyy in May 2003. At the present time, investigative measures are being carried out with regard to the detained men to check their involvement in the crimes, the HQ said. In the Groznyy settlement of Chernorechye, Interior Ministry operatives and servicemen from the military commandant's office detained six residents of the capital whom there is reason to suspect of involvement in criminal activity in the ranks of bandit formations. [Passage omitted: Two rebels wiped out in Urus-Martanovskiy District, rebel Assad Ediyev killed in Groznyy - see earlier reports]
