04 June 2004 10:16 Russians say organizer of terrorist acts killed in Chechnya Groznyy, 4 June: Last night the Chechen presidential security service killed Assad Ediyev who rendered armed
resistance when being detained, said Col Ilya Shabalkin, the spokesman for the regional operations HQ of the
antiterrorist operation in the North Caucasus.
The rebels detained earlier said that Ediyev was preparing a terrorist attack at Groznyy's Dinamo stadium, which
was to be held during a large-scale meeting devoted to the future presidential election in Chechnya, the HQ said.
A forged passport, a pistol with a silencer, two mines and several hand grenades, 6 kg of TNT and a home-made
explosive device were found in the house where Ediyev was hiding.
It is now known that Ediyev, whose call sign is Khasum, had organized and put into practice a number of terrorist
attacks, including those committed against civilians living in Groznyy. Lately he was preparing attempts against the
lives of some leaders of the republic.

so-called emir (leader of the local Wahhabi community) of Achkhoy-Martanovskiy District, was killed as a result of a
special operation outside the village of Roshni-Chu in Chechnya's Urus-Martanovskiy District. Another rebel was
killed along with him and several others were detained during the operation.
A Kalashnikov automatic rifle, a Makarov pistol, a grenade launcher, hand grenades and a Kenwood walkie-talkie were
seized from the scene, Shabalkin added.]
