03 June 2004 07:56 Siberian court hands down verdict in mine`s wage arrears case The verdict in the case of the former managing director and co-owner of the Yeniseyskaya private mine Ten Yen Tak was
pronounced few minutes ago. He was charged with intentionally withholding wages of miners who had to go on a hunger
strike to receive their money.
The Chernogorsk court sentenced him to two kinds of punishment, namely the maximum fine of R80,000 [about 2,760
dollars] and deprivation of a right to hold managerial posts in the next three years. Ten Yen Tak pleaded guilty on 2
June. The investigation has determined that he gave instructions to the company's accountant to withhold the
staff's wages more than once. At that, the mine's management were receiving their salaries on time.
The miners who were present at the trial did not agree with the stance of prosecution that asked for a fine of
R50,000 for Ten Yen Tak and left the court room in protest on 2 June.
