01 June 2004 05:51 RAO UES to bid in consortium for Slovak power producer MOSCOW. June 1 (Interfax) - Russia's RAO UES International wants to bid on Slovenske Elektrarne (SE),
Slovakia's biggest power producer, as part of a consortium, the CTK news agency reports RAO UES
International's board chairman Andrei Rappoport as saying this week.
RAO UES is in talks with three strategic investors, according to Rappoport. A decision on a partner should be made
within a month, he adds.
RAO UES has also announced that it is prepared to complete the third and fourth reactors at SE's Mochovce
nuclear power plant. The announcement makes RAO the second firm to express interest in SE's nuclear power holdings,
after the Czech energy giant CEZ. Slovak Economy Minister Pavol Rusko said recently that the government would prefer
bidders willing to complete Mochovce.
According to press reports, Italy's Enel is also interested in both SE's nuclear and conventional energy
production holdings, while Germany's E.ON and Austria's Verbund are interested solely in SE's thermal and
hydroelectric power stations.
SE operates three nuclear power plants, two thermal power stations and several hydroelectric power plants. The firm
produces over 80 % of Slovakia's electricity. [RU EUROPE ASIA EEU EMRG ENR ELG POWR SK] <>
