03 June 2004 02:06 ACET and the BioIndustry Initiative: BIO2004 Russia Delegation ALAMEDA, Calif., June 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Accelerating California's Emerging Technologies (ACET) helps bring new
technologies to market through a laboratory and business-based incubator, by providing management and technical
assistance, by facilitating technology transfers from federal laboratories, and by orchestrating international trade
missions and foreign trade seminars as well as inbound trade missions. ACET catalyzes critically important solutions to
biotechnical, energy and environmental challenges, which in turn attract new investment dollars to the regional economy,
increase local business space occupancy and create high quality technical and non-technical jobs.
The BioIndustry Initiative and ACET are hosting a delegation of more than 65 Russian senior scientists and project
managers to the U.S. for BIO2004 in June, 2004. The Russian delegation is seeking -- Partnerships involving licensing
Russian technologies -- Partnerships involving collaborative research and development -- Contracts with American
companies to use Russian biotech production facilities -- Models for establishing civilian/commercial biotech businesses
in Russia, including technology incubators.
ACET will introduce the Russian delegation to key elements of the Bay Area biotechnology industry and venture capital
community in the San Francisco Bay Area, setting the stage for partnering opportunities in the areas of technology
transfer and licensing, marketing Russian biotechnology products and services, and increased U.S. utilization of Russian
biotech production capabilities.
In hosting this Russian delegation, ACET is catalyzing business opportunities and providing a conduit to link Russian
resources with Bay Area biotech opportunities. ACET has a successful track record of generating collaboration: --
through its incubator, assisted graduating client companies in securing approximately $240M in private investment
capital and adding approximately 2,100 direct and indirect jobs to the economy. -- led 3 foreign trade missions to
Europe in 2003, projected to generate over $1.1 billion in partnership deals for delegate companies over the next 2
years.
In 2005, ACET will move to a 30,000 sq. ft facility on a 3.47 acre site at the old Fleet Industrial Supply Center
(FISC), in Alameda, CA. Property purchase and new building construction are funded through a $6.44M grant from the U.S.
Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration (EDA) and $1.61 million of in-kind contributions from
