31 May 2004 11:53 Ambassador: U.S. needs Siberia-Murmansk oil pipeline MURMANSK. May 31 (Interfax-Northwest) - U.S. companies may invest in a proposed oil pipeline to run from western
Siberia to Murmansk if the Russian government supports such a project, U.S. Ambassador to Russia Alexander Vershbow told
a news conference in Murmansk on Monday.
Vershbow said the proposed pipeline would give the United States access to Siberian oil and that it was not important
for his country whether the pipeline would be built by Russian state or private companies.
Vershbow arrived in Murmansk to take part in an international roundtable discussion on interaction between Russia and
NATO countries in the Barents Sea region. [RU EUROPE EEU EMRG OIL CRU ENR TRD US] as tj <>
