ensure that foreign investors feel comfortable in our country, Georgia," Kakha Bendukidze has said in his
conversation with journalists after his appointment as Georgia's minister of economics.
Bendukidze noted that a number of reforms were needed to take the Georgian economy to the next level of development.
"And the reforms require trust of the people," he added. Bendukidze said that he discussed a range of economic
issues during his meeting with President Mikheil Saakashvili [in Tbilisi last week].
Bendukidze believes that Russian business can help Georgia to develop in any direction. "I hope that, by the end
of this year, a number of agreements will be reached with respect to privatization of some infrastructure facilities in
Georgia. I think that not only energy facilities but transport and tourism will also be attractive for Russia," the
newly appointed minister said. He noted that privatization should be carried out through open and transparent
auctions.
