Russia releases final budget figures for 2003
Moscow, 31 May: Russia's federal budget surplus totalled R214.2bn in 2003, or 1.6 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP), according to confirmed and final estimate released by the Finance Ministry on Monday [31 May]. Federal budget revenues reached R2,586bn, while spending hit R2,372bn. The primary surplus came to R435.1bn, or 3.3 per cent of GDP. Federal budget tax revenues amounted to R2,222bn in 2003, or 16.7 per cent of GDP. According to Russia's Federal State Statistics Service, Russia's GDP at current prices grew 7.3 per cent on the year to R13,285bn in 2003. [The current exchange rate is R28.985 to the dollar]
