Mixed blessing
If the comprehensive spending review fails to come up trumps for the LSC, there is a possible solution: appoint Roman
Abramovich to succeed Bryan Sanderson as chairman. The Russian billionaire might be persuaded to dip into his wad to
tide the quango over, particularly if this could get tax relief back home. There is only problem. To some eyes
Abramovich bears a facial resemblance to Mark Haysom, the LSC chief executive, which could be a distraction in
meetings.
