28 May 2004 00:47 Russia lifts ban on Dutch poultry imports MOSCOW. May 28 (Interfax) - Russia has lifted its ban on poultry imports from the Netherlands, which was imposed
after a case of bird flu was reported at one of the country's farms in March.
The ban applied to imports of poultry meat and live poultry, incubator eggs, all types of poultry products not
subjected to thermal processing, poultry food and food additives, as well as equipment for maintaining and slaughtering
birds.
Dutch poultry suppliers, however, are allowed to deliver their
goods to Russia only if the loading of each shipment is overseen by
Sergei Dankvert, director of Rosvetnadzor (Russian Federal Veterinary Service), told Interfax that the ban was lifted
after the Netherlands had taken all steps needed to contain the outbreak and Russia's veterinary service was given
safety guarantees.
Russian veterinary experts, Dankvert said.
Russia's ban on poultry imports from the American states of Delaware, Maryland and Texas, as well as from China,
Vietnam, Japan, South Korea, Cambodia, Taiwan, Indonesia, Laos, Hong Kong and Pakistan, is still in force.
Since spring, the outbreak of bird flu in Southeast Asia has killed more than 20 people in Vietnam and Thailand. [RU
