Khakasia assigns 6 mln rubles to pay wage arrears to hunger
strikers ABAKAN. May 28 (Interfax-Siberia) - The government of the internal republic of Khakasia in Siberia decided on Friday to assign 6 million rubles from its budget to pay wage arrears to employees of the Yeniseiskaya coal mine currently on a hunger strike. The government press service told Interfax that the 6.02 million rubles should be transferred to the mine immediately. Coal miners began a hunger strike on May 17 to protest the fact that they have not received wages for an extended period of time. Some 157 coals mine employees are currently on strike. On Thursday doctors strongly advised 32 of them to stop the protest for health reasons. They believe almost half of the strikers should stop their strike. However, the hunger strikers are determined to continue their protest until they are paid in full the 6.877 million rubles owed them in wage arrears. [RU EUROPE EEU EMRG JOB COA HEA] ml aw
