26 May 2004 15:09 GAZPROM CONSIDERS LNG PLANT IN ST. PETERSBURG MOSCOW. May 26 (Interfax) - Russian gas giant Gazprom is considering building a liquefied natural gas plant in St.
Petersburg with a capacity of 3 million-5 million tonnes per annum, at a cost of $1.3 billion, company Deputy CEO
Alexander Ryazanov told journalists at a press conference in Moscow on Wednesday.
"We are considering using gas produced in Western Siberia as a raw material for liquefaction," he said.
In October 2003 Gazprom and Lukoil signed an agreement for Lukoil
to supply gas from the Nakhodka gas field in the Bolshekhetsky
He said that Gazprom discussed the plans to build the plant with Canada's PetroCanada. Proposed liquefied
natural gas production is estimated at 3 million - 5 million tonnes per annum, with 6.5 billion - 7 billion cubic meters
of gas being processed. The Canadian company estimates that this plant will cost $1.3 billion.
Ryazanov said that Gazprom is ready to sign an agreement to buy gas from other companies for the plant. In
particular, Gazprom already has an agreement with Lukoil to buy 10 billion cubic meters of gas, he said.
