26 May 2004 05:56 PACE to hear report on human rights in Yukos case MOSCOW. May 26 (Interfax) - Sabine Leutheuser-Schnarrenberger, a representative of the Parliamentary Assembly of the
Council of Europe (PACE), intends to present a report on the observance of human rights in the criminal case of the
Russian oil company Yukos.
She said in an Ekho Moskvy radio interview on Wednesday that she would first present a report to the Council of
Europe's legal committee in early June and then late in summer, after which she would present a full report to the
assembly.
In her first address to the legal committee, she will speak about her current trip to Russia, including her meetings.
The committee may need her to hold more meetings in Russia, Leuthesuer-Schnarrenberger said
Leutheuser-Schnarrenberger said her duty is to see to what extent the principles of a law abiding state are observed
in keeping suspects in detention centers adding that she is not trying to find whether the detention center inmates must
be punished.
"I deeply regret not having an opportunity to talk to the people under investigation since I wasn't there
to determine if they were guilty or not, but to simply hear their opinions," she said.
Leutheuser-Schnarrenberger said that she was pleased with her meetings with Russian officials who answered all her
questions. [RU EUROPE ASIA EMRG DIP CRIM WEU] ap tj <>
