26 May 2004 04:44 DIPLOMATIC (Outgoing Russian Ambassador meets Sherpao) ISLAMABAD May 26 (PPI) The outgoing Russian Ambassador to Pakistan Mr. Eduard Shevch Enko called on the Federal
Minister for Water & Power, KANA & SAFFRON, Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao in the Ministry of Water & Power, here
Wednesday. During the meeting the ambassador discussed with the minister the steps being taken by the Russian government
to improve bilateral trade and investment in the country. He termed his tenure in Pakistan (ending next month) very
successful and memorable. He also hoped that the relations between the two countries in the fields of energy and
commerce and trade would strengthen even further with the passage of time. He added that the Russian investors are
interested in investing in the country and both the countries can move ahead in this field. The ambassador also
appreciated and praised the economic and trade policies initiated by the President General Pervez Musharraf. He
specially mentioned the government's emphasis on improvement of water resources and conservation & optimum use
of water. The minister on this occasion thanked the outgoing Russian ambassador for his efforts for improvement of
bilateral trade relations between the two countries. The minister specially mentioned the prospects of enhancing
cooperation between the two countries for establishment of power plants. He said that Russia has great technical
expertise in the field of power-plant construction and hoped that Pakistan would benefit for this. The minister added
that the policies of President General Pervez Musharraf are focused on strengthening the economy of the country and
improving the socio-economic condition of the people. He said that the government has realized the importance of saving
and properly utilizing each and every drop of water for our future. He said that improving the water resources and
proper utilization of water would shape the better future for Pakistan and its economy and ensure a bright future for
its people.
