26 May 2004 02:44 Metals holding to boost pipe output 60% by 2008 MOSCOW. May 26 (Interfax) - United Metallurgical Company (OMK) aims to boost pipe output 60% to 1.6 million tonnes of
pipe annually by 2008 and take 30% of the Russian pipe market, Alexander Kastravets, OMK's public relations
manager, said at the Russian Pipes 2004 exhibition.
"We plan to significantly increase production by 2008 to include 1.6 million tonnes of pipe - 800,000 tonnes of
it large-diameter pipe- and 850,000 railway wheels. Exports will rise to 30% of our sales," Kastravets said.
OMK produced about 1 million tonnes of pipe in 2003. It produced
439,000 tonnes of other steel goods and more than 600,000 railway
OMK comprises some 20 companies, including the Vyksa Metallurgical Plant, Chusovoi and Schyolkovo metallurgical
plants and Almetyevsk Tube Works. The group produces more than 20% of Russia's pipes, about 30% of large-diameter
pipes for the fuel and energy sector, and more than 60% of the country's automobile springs and rail wheels. It is
also Russia's largest supplier of ferrovanadium.
