27 May 2004 00:49 Russian company head says series production of Ka-31 helicopters begins Lukhovitsy (Moscow Region), 27 May: The Kamov company has launched Ka-31 naval helicopters into series production at
the Kumertau plant, the director-general and chief designer of the company, Sergey Mikheyev, said during the
presentation of Russia's MiG aircraft corporation for representatives of diplomatic missions from Latin American
countries in Lukhovitsy.
The state holds a 49-per-cent stake in the Kamov company, which is a subsidiary of MiG.
A radar station is the basis of the helicopter's radioelectronic equipment. It makes it possible to locate ships
and small-sized objects at long distances, and detect targets at extremely low attitudes.
The helicopter can also be successfully used for civil purposes, in particular for monitoring offshore economic
zones, Sergey Mikheyev said.
