PACE official meets with charged Yukos worker`s lawyer, wife
MOSCOW. May 25 (Interfax) - Sabine Leutheusser- Schnarrenberger of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) met on Tuesday morning with Ksenia Kostromina, a lawyer for Yukos security service worker Alexei Pichugin, who is currently in jail pending trial. Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger also met with Pichugin's wife. Kostromina earlier sent a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights on Pichugin's behalf. In an interview with Interfax, Kostromina said the meeting took place at the German Embassy and lasted over one hour. The lawyer said the PACE representative was interested in hearing information alleging that psychotropic substances had been unlawfully given to Pichugin last July. "Pichugin's wife saw him the next day after this happened and gave a detailed account of her impressions," Kostromina said. Meanwhile, as was reported earlier, the Prosecutor General's Office checked this information at the defense's request and did not confirm the presence of psychotropic substances in Pichugin's body. The Prosecutor General's Office charged Pichugin with organizing the murder of the Gorin couple in Tambov in 2002 and with attempting to murder Olga Kostina, a former advisor to Yukos CEO Mikhail Khodorkovsky, and former MFO Menatep worker Kolesov. Pichugin is currently being held at the Lefortovo pretrial detention center. [RU EUROPE ASIA EEU EMRG LAW CRIM PRO POL DIP] va tj
