25 May 2004 11:16 Human rights ombudsman, prosecutor general discuss Yukos MOSCOW. May 25 (Interfax) - The Yukos affair was among the principal issues discussed at a Monday meeting between
Russian Prosecutor General Vladimir Ustinov and Human Rights Commissioner Vladimir Lukin.
"In reply to my question as to what the Prosecutor General's Office's position [regarding Yukos] is,
Ustinov said that the best answer is a multi-volume indictment drawn up by the prosecution agencies, in which, as the
prosecutor general put it, there is not a single word about politics," Lukin told Interfax on Tuesday.
The commissioner also said some other high-profile criminal cases were touched upon at the meeting as well, but, as
the conversation was confidential, he refrained from elaborating on the issue.
"I can only say that thorough and specific answers were given. Whether the Prosecutor General's
Office's opinion is objective is another thing, since this is only the opinion of one party in the judicial
proceedings," Lukin said. [RU EUROPE ASIA EEU EMRG LAW POL PRO] va tj
