26 May 2004 13:44 Russia taking part in atomic energy exhibition in Vietnam Hanoi, 26 May: The Russian "Atomstroiexport" association is taking part in the international exhibition of
"Atomic Energy Achievements-2004", which opened here on Wednesday.
On view at the vast Russian exposition are models of different types of nuclear power plants and nuclear reactors,
including a floating station, fast neutron reactors and reactors with gas turbines, and programme systems to control the
operation of nuclear power plants.
Russia has been and still is Vietnam's main partner in the development and peaceful use of atomic energy. The
country's only scientific research nuclear reactor was restored and modernized in the city of Dalat twenty years
ago with the help of the Soviet Union. It has a capacity of 500 kilowatts and is being effectively operated to this day.
Russia and Vietnam concluded in 2002 an agreement on cooperation to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, which
stipulates the possibility of building the first nuclear power plant in Vietnam.
Vietnam is planning to build and put into operation its first two-four thousand megawatt nuclear power plant in the
period of up to 2020 in Phu Yen Province. An international tender will be announced to build it. Russia has already
confirmed its readiness to take part in the competition.
