24 May 2004 07:41 UES READY TO INVEST IN AZERBAIJANI ENERGY SECTOR - CHUBAIS BAKU. May 24 (Interfax) - Unified Energy System of Russia CEO Anatoly Chubais has said that his company is ready to
invest in projects in Azerbaijan.
"We have a whole range of projects, including connected with the possibility of real investment in Azerbaijan.
We are ready for this," Chubais told journalists in Baku airport on Monday.
Among the main areas for investment Chubais noted grid construction and power generating. However, he said that the
company has not set itself the task of managing power grids in the republic. "The main aim is to jointly implement
projects with energy companies in Azerbaijan that spread out beyond the borders of both countries," he said.
"There is readiness, I hope, on both sides to significantly and strategically strengthen and develop current
cooperation," Chubais said.
He said that during his visit to Baku he plans to discuss joint projects not only in Azerbaijan, but throughout the
Caucasus region.
