Protesters continue to block traffic on Siberian river
KIRENSK. May 24 (Interfax-Siberia) - Protestors demanding that wage arrears be paid to them continue to block traffic along the Lena river in the Siberian city of Kirensk in the Irkutsk region, deputy chief of Kirensk district administration Kirill Svistelin told Interfax on Monday. The staff of the local shipping lines' Kirensk and Alexeyevskoye repair facilities is demanding wage payments and the dismissal of the directors of their facilities Alexander Artamonov and Gennady Nekrasov. On May 20, 1,300 protesters blocked traffic along the river with ships and boats. On May 21, deputy chief of Irkutsk region administration Yevgeny Korolyov and deputy regional prosecutor Igor Melnikov met with the council of captains and leadership of the two facilities but no compromise was reached.
