24 May 2004 02:35 Russian company signs new deal to supply gas to Belarus in May Moscow, 24 May: Russia's largest petrochemical company Sibur is to supply 235m cubic meters of natural gas to
Belarus by the end of May, Sibur said in a statement on Monday [24 May]. Russia's natural gas monopoly Gazprom
holds a 50.67 per cent stake in Sibur.
The relevant contract was signed with Belarus's natural gas pipeline monopoly Beltranshaz on Monday, Sibur said.
The terms of supply and payment are similar to those envisaged in previous agreements in March-May, the company said
without elaborating.
Last week Sibur signed an agreement with Beltranshaz to supply 350m cubic meters of natural gas to Belarus in May. On
12 May the two companies signed an agreement for the supply of 168m cubic meters of natural gas to Belarus in May at
46.68 US dollars per 1,000 cubic meters.
Gazprom stopped gas supplies to Belarus on 1 January due to disagreements over gas prices. Currently, Sibur and
independent gas producer Transnafta supply gas to Belarus, but no long-term contracts have been signed.
