Russian miners continue hunger strike in pursuit of wage arrears
A week after employees of the Yeniseyskaya mine in Khakassia started their hunger strike, 17 have called it off on medical advice and two have been taken to hospital. A total of 159 miners, 49 of whom are women, are continuing to press for the payment of wage arrears. This was reported today by the trade union leader at the mine, Aleksandr Atyukov, who recalled that the arrears total approximately R150,000-R200,000 per miner. The miners' union leaders are flying to Moscow today for a meeting with deputies of the State Duma.
