Russian trade surplus grows to $18 bln in Q1
MOSCOW. May 21 (Interfax) - Russia's foreign trade surplus was $18.094 billion in January-March 2004, up from $15.25 billion in the same period of 2003, the Federal State Statistics Service said. Foreign trade grew 20.4% year-on-year to $56.484 billion. Exports were up 20% to $37.289 billion and imports grew 21.3% to $19.195 billion. In March, the surplus was $5.976 billion, up from $5.614 billion a year previously. Trade increased 20.3% to $21.128 billion, including a 16.9%-increase in exports to $13.552 billion, and a 26.7%-rise in imports to $7.576 billion. Exports to fellow CIS countries in January-March 2004 increased 35.8% year-on-year to $4.581 billion, and exports to the rest of the world rose 43.1% to $26.498 billion.
