Striking miners in Khakassia promised partial debt payment next week
KRASNOYARSK. May 21 (Interfax-Siberia) - The management of the Yeniseiskaya mine in Siberia's internal republic of Khakassia has promised to pay 3.5 million rubles in wage arrears, a dispatcher at the mine told Interfax on Friday. The overall debt which the personnel is owed totals 6.877 million rubles. "We have been promised that we will be paid about half of the sum next week. The management currently does not have the money. We will continue with our hunger strike until we are paid the entire sum," the dispatcher said. The protest involving over 150 mine employees began on May 17. Seven people have been hospitalized. Doctors have told 15 more to end their hunger strike. The criminal case opened against Yeniseiskugol mining association director Ten Yen Tak over wage arrears to Yeniseiskaya miners has been sent to a local court. [RU EUROPE EEU EMRG ASIA COA] ml tj <>
