Chukotka authorities misappropriated nearly 1.5 billion rubles
MOSCOW. May 21 (Interfax) - The authorities in the Chukotka Autonomous District misappropriated nearly 1.5 billion rubles in 2003, the Auditing Chamber's auditor Sergei Ryabukhin told a news conference on Friday following a meeting in which the chamber's top officials discussed a report checking the district's finances. The check covered 2003 and the first two months of 2004, Ryabukhin said. The auditing report will be submitted to the Russian Cabinet, the Prosecutor General's Office, the Finance Ministry, the Federation Council and the State Duma. Asked whether Chukotka Governor Roman Abramovich should "lose sleep" over the report, Ryabukhin said the prosecution service must respond to the Auditing Chamber's findings.
