Senior Russian, U.S. officials discuss nuclear issues
MOSCOW. May 20 (Interfax) - Top Russian and U.S. officials met in Moscow on Thursday to discuss cooperation in nuclear power projects, said the director of the Russian Federal Nuclear Power Agency, Alexander Rumyantsev. Industry and Energy Minister Viktor Khristenko and U.S. Undersecretary of State for Arms Control and International Security John Bolton also attended the meeting. "Our meetings, which take place on a regular basis, address key issues in the nuclear power sector," he said. The U.S. has repeatedly criticized Russia for its nuclear cooperation with Iran, particularly its involvement in building the Bushehr nuclear power plant, Rumyantsev said. "We, however, have repeatedly stressed during our meetings that we have never violated a single international obligation, and have been working under the total control of the International Atomic Energy Agency," he said. "We are engaged in a long-term dialogue," Rumyantsev said, denying "any sort of pressure from the United States." [RU EUROPE EEU EMRG US ENK IR] tm tl <>
