20 May 2004 06:22 Zhukov may head tripartite commission for social and economic relations MOSCOW. May 20 (Interfax) - Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Zhukov may be appointed head of a tripartite commission
for the settlement of social and labor relations, which is comprised of the government, employers and trade unions.
President Vladimir Putin supported this proposal which was put forward by Chairman of the Federation of Russian
Independent Trade Unions Mikhail Shmakov on Thursday.
Shmakov asked the president to appoint a coordinator of the commission and said that trade unions would like it to be
Zhukov. Putin said he would discuss the issue with Zhukov later in the day. "I think we can do that," the
president said.
Shmakov also conveyed a proposal from trade unions to appoint Health and Social Development Minister Mikhail Zurabov
a governmental coordinator of the commission. He said they already had trade union and business coordinators in the
commission.
Shmakov said it was necessary to form the governmental part of the tripartite commission as soon as possible. [RU
