21 May 2004 10:28 Ferrari-Maserati open showroom in Moscow (Ferrari e Maserati arrivano a Mosca) Ferrari-Maserati, the Italian sports and luxury car maker, yesterday opened a showroom in Moscow with a view to
conquering a niche in Russia's emerging car market. Last year, according to official figures, car sales in Russia
rose in value by 18 per cent, to more than 6bn euros. While sports and luxury cars accounted for no more than 2.5 per
cent of that sum, the Italian company believes that Russian Ferrari customers will welcome the opportunity to buy their
vehicle in Russia itself, thereby avoiding the inconvenience and substantial import duties involved in making their
purchase abroad.
At present, Ferrari-Maserati's Russian marketing is focusing on the Maserati four-door model, which is available
as a sports car, coupe or spyder. Overall, the company is aiming to sell between 80 and 100 Maseratis and 20-30
Ferrari's this year in Russia, rising to 150 and 30-35 respectively in 2005.
