20 May 2004 15:38 Russian premier wants smooth, effective work from new cabinet [Presenter] The process of forming a Russian government was effectively completed today. President Vladimir Putin
appointed the new members of the Cabinet of Ministers and their number has grown by one to 18. Everyone else retained
their previous posts. The head of state also signed a decree on the structure of the government. The Cabinet of
Ministers has been placed in charge of the space and nuclear sectors and of state statistics.
Ilya Kulikov has the details:
[Correspondent] Opening today's meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, [Prime Minister] Mikhail Fradkov told the
members of the government about the president's decisions.
[Fradkov] All the ministers here present are appointed ministers in the new government. I'd like to be able to
rely on the new government working smoothly and effectively for the good of the country and our citizens. [Passage
