17 May 2004 03:21 Industrial output rises 7.4% in Jan-April - Zhukov MOSCOW. May 17 (Interfax) - Russia increased its industrial production 7.4% in January-April 2004, compared with 6.7%
in the same period of 2003, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Zhukov said Monday.
In a meeting between the president and government members, Zhukov said that the highest rates of growth were 15% in
machine building and metallurgy, 10% in construction materials, 10% in chemicals and petrochemicals and 8% in the food
industry.
"Thus, production growth is climbing not because of high oil prices, but in industries requiring a high level of
processing," Zhukov said.
"So far we are falling within the predicted rate for prices rises in 2004 of no more than 10%, while real
incomes increased 13.2% in the first four months," he said.
"Overall, the rate of growth is increasing after slowing down in March. The rate of industrial production growth
in April rose 0.7%-0.8% compared with March," Zhukov said. [RU ASIA EUROPE EEU EMRG ECI] me
