IMPORT DUTY ON RAW SUGAR TO BE $206 PER TONNE IN JUNE - MINISTRY
MOSCOW. May 12 (Interfax) - The import duty on raw sugar will be $206 per tonne in June 2004, as in May, the Economic Development Ministry's press service announced Wednesday. The import duty on raw sugar was calculated on the basis of the average monthly price of May contracts at the New York commodity and raw materials exchange in April 2004. According to the Economic Development Ministry, the average price for raw sugar at the New York commodity exchange stood at $144.53 per tonne in April, slightly up from $143.21 in March. Earlier reports said that the Russian government had passed a resolution on tariff regulations on raw sugar and white sugar imports in 2004, saying that the customs duty (in U.S. dollars) will be fixed with due account taken of raw sugar quotes at the New York commodity and raw materials exchange.
