Russian mobile phone users up 5.5% in April to 44.7 million
MOSCOW. May 13 (Interfax) - The number of mobile phone users in Russia increased 5.5% in April 2004 from March to
reach 44.7 million as of April 30, says a report from research company J'son & Partners.
Mobile TeleSystems was the leader, the report says. The company has 16.148 million subscribers (a 21% increase), with
5.632 million of them in the Moscow zone.
Vympelcom had 13.926 million subscribers as of late April (a 23% increase), including 6.304 million in the Moscow
zone.
Megafon had 8.111 million subscribers (a 28% increase), including over 1.002 million in Moscow and its suburbs.
The top ten list of Russian mobile phone services providers includes Uralsvyazinform with nearly 1.486 million
subscribers (a 24% increase, including subscribers in subsidiary companies), Middle Volga Interregional Association of
Radio-Telecom Systems with 1.316 million subscribers (15% increase), Nizhny Novgorod Mobile Telecommunications with
437,798 subscribers (19% increase), Yeniseitelecom (including Sayantelecom) with 332,874 subscribers (32% increase),
Yekaterinburg Mobile Telecommunications with 276,189 subscribers (20% increase), Dal Telecom International with 276,448
subscribers (35% increase) and Baikalvestcom with 205,087 subscribers (11% increase).
According to J'son & Partners, 30.8% of Russians had become mobile phone users by of the end of April,
