Aluminum exports up, nickel, copper down in Q1
MOSCOW. May 12 (Interfax) - Russia increased exports of unrefined aluminum 65% year-on-year in the first quarter this year, while exports of refined copper fell 25.7% and unrefined nickel - 4.3%, according to the latest figures from the Federal Customs Service. In total Russia exported 1.201 million tonnes of aluminum, 78,000 tonnes of copper and 56,700 tonnes of nickel in the first quarter. Despite the drop in physical volumes of copper and nickel exports, in cost terms exports were up 23.4% and 87.2% respectively due to price growth for these metals. In cost terms, copper exports amounted to $79.4 million and nickel- $192.4 million in the reporting period, while aluminum exports amounted to $1.286 billion. Almost all nonferrous metal exports were to outside the CIS.
